Our mission is to annually promote and support important charitable work, through the utilization of Connecticut's best musical talents - all in the good name of the late Steve Shore.
Steve Shore was a talented bassist and vocalist for some of Connecticut's top bands that spanned from the 1970's through 2009. He played in Cryer, Oreo, AKA, The Oreo Project, Last Licks and many other bands, including Joe Frazier and the Knockouts.
Steve was riding high on life, celebrating his time by sharing his life with his family, his wife Grace, their daughter, Stephanie and all of his very many friends, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. This diagnosis came out of no where and spread very quickly. Steve passed away on March 11, 2009, exactly 4 months to the day from when he was first given his diagnosis. He fought hard, he showed tremendous compassion for others around him and was publicly optimistic about his chances. He portrayed great courage and was supported heavily through the founding of SSRT, the Steve Shore Recovery Trust.
Although Steve did not win his battle with cancer, he had hopes that the founding of this organization would someday come to stand for goodwill that musicians and fans may show towards others in need. Today and each year, we do that in his name.
About this year's cause...
This year, Steve's wife, Grace Shore has chosen a charity that we are particularly honored to help advance, it is the ArtReach Program at CCMC.
ArtReach uses the creative process to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of their patients.
The Music for Health and Healing program is responsible for providing musical interaction between patients and carefully selected musicians, who through their talent help those in need to learn how to write and record songs. Mobile recording carts enable the interaction to be utilized with ease for those patients who may have a musical expression (hidden or otherwise) to contribute.
We are hoping to raise enough money in 2010, to enable more recording equipment and transportable carts to further the program.
It is the hope of SSRT to perhaps someday see a mini-recording station in the facility, and perhaps a songwriting contest in the name of Steve Shore.
Steve was well known for his big smile, and through his name, with your help, others may smile from the benefits that stem from this labor of love.
